Be The Change: Weekend Roundup for May 22 – 24th

Enough netflix and couch-time, summer is almost here and it’s time to make a change! Here are Philly’s offerings for a positivity filled weekend.

  • Twilight in the Gardens: May  Enjoy a favorite Philly destination this Friday in a new light amidst esteemed fellows of the Curtis Institute of Musicians. This BYOBBS (Bring Your Own Booze, Blanket, and Snacks) event takes you down the rabbit hole of Philly Magic Gardens under the stars.   • Art Star Pop Up Market 20+ Vendors set up shop in Spruce Street Harbor Park along the Delaware River this Saturday. Enjoy the fresh tastes from the pop-up restaurant, ogle at handcrafted goods or simply kick back in one of the parks Hammocks.   • March Against Monstanto Support a sustainable food future this Saturday at Philly’s 3rd annual March Against Monsanto. This year an expected turn out of 1,000 supporters will march to promote labeling of GMO’s.   Saturday, May 23rd from 12pm-6pm at Thomas Payne Plaza; visit our description for more info.
  • Malcolm X Festival The Philly Chapter of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is hosting an empowering festival in honor of Malcolm X this Saturday. Relax and experience music and poetry or charge your inner spirit with workshops on urban farming, self-defense, health, and other topics.   • Punk Rock Flea Market This sunday a diverse range of vendors come together to sell vintage goods, local crafts, used records, bicycles, new apparel, jewelry and more. Sunday May 21 from 11am-5pm at Spruce Street Harbor Park; visit the Delaware River Waterfront website for more info.

Julia Davis is finishing her second year at Temple University. She has a great love for many art forms including dance, creative writing and visual arts.
