#Tweetcert Review: Beatles ‘Abbey Road” at the Mann Center
Last Thursday, I enjoyed a very lovely, eco-friendly evening at the Mann Music Center for some Beatles during the Philly Orchestra’s rendition of “Down the Abbey Road“, part of the Orchestra Summer Series. During the show, concertgoers (including Green Philly Blog) tweeted show updates and interesting Beatles facts with the hashtag #tweetcert (like the Mann’s pictured to the right).
Besides the fact I was waiting for Joan Osborne to change her tune and do a little portion of “One of Us”, I was highly entertained for the evening! The Orchestra started off with a classical piece, then went through the Abbey Road album in its entirety. Joan Osbourne & Rodney Crowell harmonized with the Philadelphia Orchestra for the journey along Abbey Road, from “Come Together” to “Oh! Darling, to “I Want You (She’s So Heavy.) “Get Back” was a brief encore. Since I’m not a music critic, I enjoyed the tunes with the Orchestra’s powerful violins, cellos and guitars with other instruments playing out the Beatles cover.
The coolest part of the Mann Center concerts? You can bring snacks and wine to Orchestra Performances (unlike some others), so we decided to bring quite the spread to enjoy the show:
Plus, I kept my travel carbon footprint light by taking the 40 or 43 Septa Bus to the Mann Center and the Mann Center’s Center City Loop Bus on my return.
Want to see some upcoming shows? Check out the Mann Events Calendar, including upcoming performances Blue Planet Live on 7/27 with the Russian National Orchestra and marine life film sequences; Martin Short, Marvin Hamlisch & Brian Stokes Mitchell with the Pittsburgh Symphony Sunday 7/10; or Cirque de la Symphonie with the Russian National Orchestra on 7/28…and many others.
