Food Trucks, Movies, & Climate Change: Green Week Guide 8/25–8/28

chanticleer gardens green week guideHopefully you took advantages of the bike tours and farmers’ markets this weekend! If you didn’t (and even if you did), here are some more fantastic, green events for you to look into!

Whether you want to learn about climate change or just sit back and relax with a movie, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s our guide to the best events this week:

  • PHS Movie Mondays: Come on down to PHS’s Pop Up Garden for a free movie night to see the comedy The Great Outdoors, starring Dan Aykroyd. Come early to participate in Movie Quizzo! August 25th, 6 PM Quizzo, Movie starts at 8 PM, 1438 South Street.
  • Climate Change Forum: Interested in climate change? Join Representative McCarter along with other local legislators as they discuss the science of global warming and climate change! Come to participate or just to listen. Tuesday, August 26th, 2 – 5 PM,1250 West Church Road, Wyncote, RSVP Online.
  • Books through Bars: If you’re looking for a new volunteer opportunity in the area, join the many volunteers who come out to help Books through Bars! Volunteers read letters from prisoners and try to match their book requests with the available donations. Tuesday, August 26th, 7:30 – 9:30 PM, 4722 Baltimore Ave.
  • Chanticleer Gardening Series: Looking to learn more about gardening? PHS is hosting an evening series to teach just that at the Chanticleer Gardens this Wednesday! Come learn about cultivating and growing plants in the shade, creating trellises, planting perennials, and more! Students will event get a private taste of the gardens since the classes are held after close! Wednesday, August 27th, 5 – 8 PM, North 20th Street, Register Online.
  • Twilight Yoga: Pop Up Yoga Philly is hosting a Vinyasa Yoga Class for all skill levels this Wednesday at Franklin Square! Tickets can be bought online for just $10, and participants are encouraged to bring their own mats. Wednesday, August 27th, 7 – 8 PM, 6th and Race Street.
  • Summer on the Square: Come to Chestnut Square this Thursday for free music and food and drink specials! Eat your food outside as you listen to local musician Owili-Eger perform! Restaurants in the area include Zavino, Shake Shack, Vegetate, CoZara. Yogorino, and more. Thursday, August 28th, 5 – 7 PM, 32nd and Chestnut Street.
  • Food Truck Festivus: End summer right with a food truck festival at Franklin Square! There will be outdoor games and Ben’s Beer Garden in addition. Participating food trucks even include some of our favorites! Thursday, August 28th, 6 – 9 PM, 6th and Race Street, FREE.

Catharine was an Editorial Intern in 2014. From growing up in Damascus, Maryland to studying Marketing and Finance at Saint Joseph’s University, she got her first taste of sustainability in Elementary School when her mother went on a recycling binge and got the family on board. She assumes she'll probably be something like that when she grows up, too. She loves her other roles as a Resident Assistant and barista at Starbucks.
