With Sunday’s Broad Street Run approaching (It will be my 6th) and today kicking off National Bike Month, it’s a beautiful weekend to get outside & celebrate. Here’s our picks for the weekend.

Weekend Events for May 1 – 3, 2015:

  • Philadelphia Independents Anniversary Party! Come celebrate the One Year Anniversary with Greetings from Philadelphia, Eli VandenBerg’s exhibition of original ink drawings of iconic Philly landmarks and Weckerly’s Ice Cream all night! First Friday, May 1 from 6-9pm; 35 N 3rd St; Philadelphia Independents website.
  • State of the Greenway Summit An all-day summit that highlights progress along the East Coast Greenway and celebrate the great strides Philadelphia has made. Speakers include PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards, Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglio and William Penn Foundation’s Watershed Program Director Andrew Johnson. The Summit will conclude with a walk and bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail, and an evening reception at the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Open to the public; registration is $10 for ECGA members and $20 for non-members.Lloyd Hall, 1 Boathouse Row from 9 a.m. to 4:30 ;To learn more or purchase tickets visit greenway.org.
  • PHS Meadowbrook Farm Spring Fling: Celebrate spring and welcome the season at the PHS Meadowbrook Farm Spring Fling. This year’s “Spring Fling” will focus on education, with Master Gardener and Meadowbrook Farm Director Jenny Rose Carey on hand to answer questions. Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 1633 Washington Lane, Meadowbrook, PA 19046, Meadowbrook Website.
  • Science Carnival on the Parkway: Visit more than 175 exhibitors offering non-stop, family-friendly experiments, interactive activities, games, and a packed line-up of live entertainment. Look out for sustainability themes like from the Resource Exchange in Climate City. Saturday, May 2nd from 10 AM – 4 PM; Ben Franklin Parkway; Website
