Summer is officially here!

What better way to enjoy the bounty of our city’s farms than an evening spent outdoors, enjoying locally sourced, farm-fresh food, live music, and classic lawn games, all against the backdrop of the beautiful Weavers Way farm at Awbury Arboretum? Each year, the Hoedown to benefit Weavers Way Community Program (WWCP) is a great time for a good cause. This year’s event is extra special, though: WWCP will unveil their new name!

WWCP is the largest and most innovative organization in Northwest Philadelphia addressing the intersecting problems of poverty, nutrition, and food access, and is a key player in Philadelphia’s food justice movement. All proceeds from the Hoedown support WWCP’s farm, nutrition, and culinary education programs, which empower children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds with the values and knowledge to be healthy, strong, and informed.

It’s fitting that WWCP, which works so closely with the local community, has so much community support for the Hoedown. Highlights this year include kombucha from Inspired Brews, beer generously donated by Earth Bread and Brewery, Bary Hygge, and Philly Homebrew, and a fresh local menu, courtesy of Weavers Way Co-op, that includes vegan-friendly and gluten-free options. Desserts will be provided by the Night Kitchen Bakery, Bredenbeck’s Bakery, High Point Café, and Mugshots Coffeehouse. Food and drink are included with every ticket. Rounding out the community support is a lovely array of raffle items donated by local Philadelphia businesses, so be sure to purchase tickets at the event and enter the drawings!
