WWF: File Format You Can’t Print

One of my biggest frustrations is when I (rarely) walk over to the work printer (unfortunately, you sometimes need to print) and see a pile of pages no one bothered to pick up. Especially when it’s a private email or reminder you know doesn’t need to waste a tree’s life. I call this disorder WPS, or Wasteless Printing Syndrome.

WWF format is an attempt at the WPS solution, since the recipient CAN’T physically print the page. You can easily visit the WWF website, download the software, and save all your documents as “WWF”.

This free software goes a step beyond my many signatures like “Please consider your environmental responsibility before printing this e-mail; and please recycle.”

Unfortunately you’re computer has to fit the following formats:

  • MAC system requirements: G4, 10.4 (Tiger) or better
  • PC system requirements: Dual-Core, Windows XP/SP3 or better.

What do you think of this new file format? Will it actually make a difference?
