Greenbuild, the world's largest green building conference is coming to Philly next week! The Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) is hosting a few events that you can attend to celebrate green buildings in our city!

On Wednesday, June 13th the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce chapter will host an event focusing on energy efficiency for businesses. Today companies - big and small - are taxed with the challenge of finding ways to decrease their energy costs and operate more efficiently. If you're a local business this is a session that may benefit you and your sustainability initiatives. The event will feature a panel of industry experts including keynote speaker, Kyle Tanger, Director of Clear Carbon Service, and energy experts from the Energy Efficient Buildings Hub. Main Line Chamber of Commerce Go Green Committee is taking action to help area businesses learn about sustainable practices and resources, and how saving energy, saves money. Ardmore law firm, Silver & Silver is the lucky recipient of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce 2012 Green Makeover award. Find out more info on the award here. On February 1 Go Green Committee co-chairs, Roderick Wilson of Wolfson Architect and Beke Beau, a popular Main Line makeup artist , joined by a team of local business people will set up shop in Silver & Silver’s 100-plus-year-old shop to film an on-air energy audit.

GlaxoSmithKline announced last week that it's moving to a LEED-certified building in the Navy Yard from its current Center City location. According to the Philly.com story, "GSK says it will sign 15 1/2-year lease for a four-story, 205,000-square-foot facility being developed by Liberty Property Trust and Synterra Partners". Glaxo would move all its employees either at One & Three Franklin Plaza Center city locations to south Philly in late 2012/early 2013. I definitely commend any company who wants to become green and up its efficiency. The eco-friendly design should (find out more, after the jump!)

Turning a business “green” can seem like a huge undertaking. For a non-profit this evolution might seem even more daunting. But if a soup kitchen can afford to create a green facility, who can’t? The Cathedral Kitchen in Camden, N.J has partnered with Philadelphia green design firm, DAS Architects, to create one of the first environmentally friendly soup kitchens. Each month Cathedral Kitchen provides 8,000 meals to the poor and hungry. Operating since 1976, Cathedral Kitchen’s contribution to the community is significant.
