WE CAN: A POP-UP BEER CAN GARDEN
DesignPhiladelphia comes to The Trestle Inn as 11th and Callowhill transforms into a green space
located one block north of DesignPhiladelphia’s Signature Event – Pearl Street Passage
The Trestle Inn and MIO teamed up to create WE CAN: A Pop-Up Beer Can Garden – a playful tongue-in-cheek response to the many “pop up” beer gardens which have recently proliferated around Philadelphia. Taking place during DesignPhiladelphia’s signature Pearl Street Passage, WE CAN attendees will help transform a grey slice of sidewalk on Callowhill Street into a green oasis by repurposing beer cans into hydroponic planters.
From Thursday, October 8 through Sunday, October 11, the beer can garden will ‘grow’ into a sidewalk installation intended to inspire the public to think of creative ways they, too, can reuse aluminum cans. All 16-ounce beer cans for the project are provided exclusively by Old Forge Brewing Company of Danville, PA, and sold for $5. With South Philadelphia’s hydro+pose studios supplying all the plants.
WE CAN invites the community to share their own ideas and photos for aluminum can upcycling on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #wecanphilly. More information is available at wecanphilly.org.
