April 29, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The human voice is remarkably sustainable, and so are the stories are of human passions handed down generation to generation by storytelling and singing.  Opera brings together great stories and great music to remind us of the power of desire, decisions, disappointment, dreams and destiny.  Come hear Philadelphia’s famed Academy of Vocal Arts perform Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote” (“The Magic Flute”).  Performance schedule: 7:30pm on Saturday, April 29, Tuesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 4 at the Academy of Vocal Arts, 1920 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA.  For tickets and more info:

Stage Director Jeffrey Buchman brings his Florida Grand Opera setting of Mozart’s beloved opera to the AVA stage. A young boy reads the fantastic tale of The Queen of the Night persuading Prince Tamino to rescue her daughter Pamina from captivity under the high priest Sarastro. Picturing himself as Tamino, the boy learns the high ideals of Sarastro’s community and seeks to join it. Separately, then together, Tamino and Pamina undergo severe trials of initiation, which end in triumph with the Queen and her cohorts vanquished.
