Global Day of Action for the Amazon – Tell BlackRock: divest from Amazon destruction

Massive swaths of the Amazon and the Pantanal are burning. Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro is dithering, blaming “fake news” and NGOs, and playing political games with international offers for aid.

So, why rally at the Cira Center? It houses the Philadelphia branch of BlackRock, which has become the largest investor in businesses that will profit from destruction of the Amazon rainforests.

We demand that BlackRock divest from these interests, which along with Bolsonaro’s rhetoric, have both metaphorically and literally fanned oxygen onto the raging fires and incentivized exploitation of formerly protected indigenous lands.
