This free event takes place outside the historic Fairmount Water Works, along the Schuylkill River trail to the Walnut Street Bridge.
Art in the Open celebrates artists, their inspirations, and their relationships with the urban environment. The program, now entering its 11th year, was designed to foster community through art experiences that bridge Philadelphia’s outdoor spaces, natural areas, and our shared waterways for the enjoyment of the public.
The public is encouraged to participate in Art in the Open by visiting often during the three-day event, to see the works of art evolve and talk with the artists about their creative process. By actively engaging with AiO, you become part of that process – influencing how the art take shapes over the three days. Artists’ working times will vary with their project’s particular needs; most activity takes place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Art in the Open is produced in partnership with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists and the Fairmount Water Works. For more information about Art in the Open, and for a complete list of the selected artists, visit www.cfeva.org/aio.
