The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education is kicking off our Year of Restoration with the American chestnut. Once a foundational tree in Pennsylvania forests, it was wiped out when a devastating fungal disease killed the species in only a few decades.
Sara Fern Fitzsimmons, The American Chestnut Foundation Director of Restoration, offers a road map that hopes to re-establish this tree.
This program is part of our annual Richard L. James lecture in honor of our founding director.
