To Bike or Not to Bike: THAT is the Question

Guest blogger Dave Greene returns to GPB, this time to talk about his favorite thing to do: Biking. This is another installment of the Clean Currents sponsored posts from your neighborhood green energy company. To bike or not to bike? Is that ever a serious question? Not for this green guy. If there’s any possible way, I always bike. Even if it’s not exactly easy. Even if it’s raining, even if it’s 100 degrees outside, even if I have to go to the hardware store and there’s an 85% chance I will need to drag home several 2x4s (that wasn’t fun, but I DID IT). I bike because (find out why, after the jump!)

Austin City Limits 2013 Greening Efforts

I'm just a little bit addicted to music festivals. My idea of a perfect day is one filled with live music, yummy (preferably local) food, perhaps some cocktails, a few friends and sunshine. From Lollapalooza to Bonnaroo to Firefly, GPB sure knows how to catch the best music festivals out there. Know what will make an eco conscious gal in a blissed-out festival mood feel even better? When she notices all of the green measures being taken to help make the event sustainable.  Last weekend at weekend two of Austin City Limits music festival, I took note. Austin City Limits 2013 Greening Efforts:

Keep a Silverware Set at Work: Friday Quickie

Trying to limit the disposables is an easy thing to get into the habit. We've already mentioned how to stash a BYO cutlery in your purse or on the go. Bring in a reusable 'set' for the office: Silverware (knife, spoon, fork), coffee mug & a small dish or bowl in case you need to heat up your lunch. It also comes in handy for the day your office or fav vendor drops off a lunch to enjoy. Readers, do you stash an office eatery set? Any other tricks you have?

Crispy CSA Cauliflower Recipe

OK, I'll be honest. I used to hate cauliflower. Growing up, I remember having the often awful, frozen broccoli / cauliflower / carrot steamed mix repeatedly. And got so sick of the mini-tree'd veggies. (Sorry Mom & Dad!) But I found a Crispy Cauliflower Recipe that changed my perception forever. Plus, CSA cauliflower is so damn fresh and flavorful, I can't praise it enough. If you have a CSA or stop by your farmer's market and spot that white, floury veggie, I demand you make this. Right now.

Leftover Green CSA Juice

The best time of spring and fall in the CSA season are all the fresh kale, cabbage, collards and other leafy greens you receive from your CSA. Yet getting veggies week after week tends to allow some of them to get a little withered after a few days. Rather than forcing yourself to eat all the greens that aren’t yet ‘bad’, make them into a delicious juice! I’ve been perfecting this one over the past few months. Click on through for the Leftover Green CSA Juice Recipe!
