Where to Get Firewood in Philadelphia

BYOA (Bring Your Own Axe) to the Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center for local firewood

Want firewood? Need to relieve stress since the ax-throwing venues are closed during COVID?

Philadelphia Park & Recreation is offering an “all you can chop” special at the Organic Fairmount Park Recycling Center. You can chop logs from storm debris and downed trees and grab compost, woodchips, and mulch.

There is a flat $15 convenience fee for the adventure.

What you need to know:

To pick up firewood, Philadelphia residents must: 

  • Bring your own tools. A chain saw and splitter are recommended for cutting logs into firewood.
  • Go to the public section of the center to pick up materials.
  • Provide a driver’s license or photo ID to show proof of residency.
  • Pay the flat rate $15 convenience fee.
  • Complete a daily log-in sheet and waiver form.
  • Select and load materials.
