Greenfest On: Week Events 9/14 – 9/20/15

Happy Monday!

Welcome to all of our new friends from Greenfest yesterday! It was a gorgeous Fall day, with temperatures starting to feel crisp and the sun shining. We gave out a ton of our plantable postcards – stay tuned if you got one, we have more surprises in store for you! (Hint: Watch your email…)

What can you do this week to keep up the Greenfest excitement? Here’s the best events this week:

Week events September 14 – 18, 2015:

  • Free screening of Bag It at the Pop Up! Enjoy a beer and watch Bag It, a movie that explores how much plastic is actually in our lives. Tuesday, September 15th from 8-9:30 PM; PHS Pop Up Garden (9th/Wharton), More deets.
  • Everything you wanted to know about Passive House but were afraid to ask: Using a fun “speed-dating” format, attendees will hear from experts about how Passive House elements work together to make buildings comfortable, quiet, and energy efficient. Beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and are all included in the ticket price. Thursday, September 17th from 6-9 PM; 2401 Walnut Street, More deets.
  • Mushroom Cultivation & Application Course: Designed for the beginner, this application Course covers the essential principles and practices of high yield mushroom production for all budgets. Starting with the fundamentals of cultivation, and progressively building in conceptual stages throughout the weekend, you will learn the empowering life skill of growing mushroom mycelium (spawn) and fruiting mushrooms in any environment. With an emphasis on the best techniques and tools that keep costs and complexity to a minimum, you will leave the course equipped to dive in to cultivating right away. REPAIR FAIR #6 – PHILLY FIXERS GUILD (SEPTEMBER 19 @ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)

Come by with your broken or damaged stuff… We will provide some light snacks while you wait for a talented Fixer to help you repair your valued items. Everyone is welcome at the Kensington Community Food Co-Op site between 10AM and 2PM on Saturday, September 19th, 2015. Hope to see you there!

Our day will begin at the Clark Park Farmers’ Market, serving the West Philadelphia community since 1999, where you can explore all the produce that is available to you.

STORY TELLING THROUGH CUT PAPER WITH RECREATE FEATURED ARTIST KATIE KNOERINGER (SEPTEMBER 20 @ 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)

At this reCreate workshop, participants will tell a story in one image by layering paper cuttings, textures, drawings, photos, and paper shapes. Bring your story ideas with you! Participants will cut and layer various colored and textured paper to create and collage together images. Each participant will leave with one image that is representative of a story they’d like to tell. Basic collage materials will be provided and additional materials can be purchased from our warehouse of reclaimed materials.

BUCKS COUNTY HEALTHY LIVING FESTIVAL – 3RD ANNUAL! (SEPTEMBER 20 @ 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM)

When: Sunday, September 20th
Time: 12-5 pm

Our Annual event will bring this ever expanding community together for a Festival in celebration of healthy living for all! Our Goal is to introduce the residents of Bucks County and surrounding areas to the many Business Entrepreneurs that offer more sustainable, healthier choices. Bringing community together is key. It is our sincerest belief that we can all gain from more alternative options that benefit our community as a whole.

Let the natural world be your teacher at our third University of Nature, a one-day symposium for the nature enthusiast.
