The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Events December 14 – 20

Happy Monday!

After an unseasonably warm weekend, it’s back to the grind. (I hope you got out and enjoyed the beautiful weather like I did – complete with a hike in the Wissahickon and walk along the Schulykill River Trail). Now it’s time to face the week with a few of the best events around.

Week Events December 14-17, 2015:

  • Cheers to Climate Negotiations! Join PennEnvironment to raise a glass to climate negotiations, and show our elected officials that even as the climate talks wind to a close, here at home we’re just getting started. 2nd Story Brewing Co., located in Old City at 117 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106; Monday, December 14th from 6-8pm; More info.
  • Women Bike PHL Holiday Happy Hour (& Ice Skating): Join the lovely ladies of Women Bike PHL for their last happy hour of the year – enjoy drinks or ice skating if you wish! Tuesday, December 15th from 6:30-8:30; Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19106; more info.
  • DVGBC Holiday Party: Our friends at DVGBC aim to make our buildings more sustainable – and have fun in the meantime! Celebrate the impact of the green building community over complementary cocktails & hor d’oeuvres. Thursday, December 17 from 5:30 – 8:30, Knoll Showroom, 2300 Chestnut St., 4th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103; $10 suggested donation; Register online now for free and donate at the door, if you wish!

Weekend Events December 18-20:

  • Philadelphia Movie Premiere of This Changes Everything: Join ACTION United, Philly Thrive and the Green Justice Philly coalition for the Philadelphia premiere showing of This Changes Everything, the film based on the book by Naomi Klein.The movie looks at the connections between global warming and the climate crisis and our failing economy. Friday, December 18th from 6-8 PM; Kingsessing Rec Center, 4901 Kingsessing; Tickets.
  • Franklin Flea: One of my favorite places to shop (one for me, one for you…) and support local crafters & makers. Enjoy local coffee or treats as you browse jewelry, crafts and more. Final Day: Saturday, December 19 from 10 AM – 5 PM; Historic Strawbridges (8th/Market Streets).
  • Philadelphia Open Ride: Bikes for Tykes: Wear your holiday outfits, from the formal to the campy, and ride through the streets spreading holiday cheer! Bring a toy for Toys for Tots, and donate them at the finish line! Saturday at 9:30 AM; Franklin Square, More info.
  • Girls Rock Philly After School Programs Winter Showcase and Celebration: Support the newest youth bands at GRP! And celebrate another year with Girls Rock Philly. Little Chair Printing, 1428 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19122, Saturday from 3-5 PM.
