Obama's Inaugural Address

Yesterday environmentalists (along with most of America) listened with a keen ear as our 44th President took the podium and addressed the nation.

President Obama made several comments to stress his resolve to combat climate change.

Some highlights from his speech:

Obama said: “We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.”

Later, he mentioned climate change: “With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet.”

Obama referenced that a national dependency on oil is not only perilous to national security, but is also dangerous for the environment. It’s refreshing to have a President in office who has finding alternative sources of energy, creating Green-collar jobs and increasing the amount of plug-in Hybrid’s on the road at the top of his agenda. Go here for Julie’s outline of Obama’s environmental agenda.

You’ve heard it before & I’ll say it again… Obama’s got his work cut out for him – Which is one thing he has in common with environmentalists. But in America, I think most of us are grateful to have a leader in office who has shown thus far that he cares about many of the issues we are fighting for.
